The Vigil of the Empty Hand - A Meditation on Sacred Poverty and the Blindness of Plenty

January 15. It is early, that hour when the light is not yet fully born but is merely an intimation—a barely perceptible graying of the horizon that blurs the boundaries between the dream world and the waking one. In such a silence, when one’s breath is visible in the air like a small, pale prayer, my thoughts return to a strange, almost painful realization: poverty, as a state of the spirit, is the highest form of wakefulness. I am not speaking of the poverty that crushes human dignity or deprives the body of bread, but of that sacred scarcity that keeps the senses sharp and the soul in a constant, trembling verticality. When a person has nothing superfluous to hold onto, they reach for the Invisible. When the hands are empty, they are finally free to be lifted upward. I observe how, in moments of lack, of true existential shortage, an unknown sentinel awakens within me. From a psychoanalytic perspective, this is the point where desire is at its purest because it is not muffled...

Life can be unpredictable

Life can be unpredictable, and sometimes it can feel like everything is falling apart. It is in those moments that we need to dig deep and find our inner strength. Inner strength is the resilience and determination to carry on in the face of adversity, even when everything seems to be going wrong. It is a powerful force that can help us overcome challenges and emerge stronger on the other side.

To cultivate inner strength, it is important to focus on the things that we can control. This means taking care of ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally, and practicing positive self-talk. We can also build our inner strength by setting goals and working towards them, even when the road ahead seems daunting.

However, finding inner strength is not always easy. Sometimes, we need to turn to others for support. This could be family, friends, or even a therapist or counselor. By opening up to others and seeking their help, we can find the strength we need to carry on.

Another important aspect of inner strength is the ability to choose what to believe and where to position ourselves. In today's world, there are many different viewpoints and beliefs that coexist, and it can be challenging to navigate them all. However, by taking the time to reflect on our own values and beliefs, we can choose where we want to stand and what we want to stand for.

At the same time, it is important to recognize that there are many different truths that coexist. What is true for one person may not be true for another. This can be difficult to accept, especially when we feel strongly about our own beliefs. However, by acknowledging the validity of different perspectives, we can learn to be more open-minded and understanding.

Ultimately, the key to finding inner strength and choosing our position is to stay true to ourselves. We need to listen to our own hearts and minds and trust our instincts. We may face criticism or pushback from others, but if we are confident in our own values and beliefs, we can stay strong and resilient.

In conclusion, finding inner strength and choosing our position in life can be a challenging journey. However, by focusing on the things we can control, seeking support when we need it, and staying true to ourselves, we can navigate even the toughest challenges. It is important to remember that there are many different truths that coexist, and that we have the power to choose where we want to stand and what we want to stand for. With these tools, we can find the inner strength we need to carry on, even in the face of adversity.
